ChatGPT is positioning itself to replace your favorite search engine with Search.
I won’t call it a “new” feature since it’s been available since October, and the way AI tools have been progressing, that’s equivalent to about 10 years… But if you didn’t know about it, then it is new to you.
ChatGPT Search takes whatever you want to search for and looks for web pages that have it. Nothing new there. And it will return a conversational answer to what you are searching for while also providing links to the websites. I think that the idea is that most people are looking for a short answer when they use a search engine and don’t want to go to the page and look through it.
In the end, it is a combination of ChatGPT and Google Search (or Bing if that’s what you like…). I think it’s also a direct shot at Perplexity, which is another AI tool that’s been doing this for the last 2 years.
To use search, click on the icon under the message area (looks like a tiny death star):
Then, enter your search like you would on Google (or Bing…):
If you click that Souces button, it will open up a citations window, and you can go to whichever site you want:
It’s nice to have options. I think ChatGPT Search works well.
What do you think?
