If you use ChatGPT, you’ve probably seen “Operator” show up in your sidebar recently.
If you are wondering what it is and why you can’t use it, I’ll give you a summary.
ChatGPT Operator is their AI agent. An agent is an AI tool that is able to use tools and make decisions on its own (there’s more to agents than that, but it is enough of a description for now). In this case, the agent is able to use its own browser, type, click, scroll, and carry out tasks for you.
It is a “research preview,” which means that they are still taking user-experience data and refining the product. It is only available to ChatGPT Pro subscribers. That is the $200/month plan.
I can’t tell you how it works from first-hand knowledge because, honestly, we aren’t willing to pay $200/month for ChatGPT. They are going to make it available to the other account tiers after they’ve tested it out for a bit longer. Not sure what the time frame will be.
Here is the OpenAI post about it with some videos about what it can do and some demos - https://openai.com/index/introducing-operator/
