Here is a prompt framework that can save you time and help you get the output that you want.
This framework is aligned with what we teach in our workshops, courses, and cohorts.
The framework is called BREW. It stands for -
- Brainstorm
- Refine
- Execute
- Work
It works a little differently than other frameworks that are out there. Here is the breakdown -
- Brainstorm - this step is for you BEFORE you enter anything into the prompt. It is there to help you clarify what output you want to see. Ask yourself these questions:
- What format do I want the output to be in?
- Who is the audience?
- What, specifically, do I want to see?
- What background information is important to lead up to the output?
- Do I have any examples that can be used as a model?
- Refine - take the information from the previous step and put it into a clear and concise prompt for the AI chatbot.
- Execute - enter the prompt and evaluate the output. Is it what you initially intended?
- Work - iterate until you get the output that you want.
- Use follow-up prompts.
- Point out what you didn’t like about the output and how you would like it to be different.
- Don’t expect the AI tool to get you 100% of the way there. If you get 80% from AI and you have to edit and/or add the last 20%, consider it a success.
This framework can take a little bit longer than some others that are out there. The more you use it, the faster you will be able to go through it and it can save you a lot of time on larger tasks.
