If you are wondering why there are so many prompt frameworks on here it is because not everything resonates with everybody. Our goal is to find something that works for you and that might include several things that don’t work so well. If we only listed one or two then you might not see the one that really lands and that you’ll keep using.
Anyway, this framework is called SAGE which stands for Situation, Action, Goal, Evaluation.
It’s a general-purpose framework that can be applied and iterated through quickly.
Here is the breakdown -
- Situation - think about and provide the context required to get the output that you want. Your goal is to provide enough information to generate the output but nothing extra (it just confuses the model and makes it more likely that you’ll get output that you don’t want)
- Action - what is the task that you want the AI tool to complete?
- Goal - what output do you want to see? Include format, tone, audience, etc. Anything that is relevant.
- Evaluation - how will you determine if the output is good enough to move forward? If you don’t get what you want, be prepared to put in follow-up prompts.
