They keep adding features to these AI chatbots. The latest for Gemini is called scheduled actions.
Instead of the normal behavior of Gemini sitting idle until you prompt it, with scheduled actions, you can ask Gemini to perform a task at a specific time in the future. You can also have it do recurring tasks (i.e., every Monday at noon …)
This is likely a direct response to ChatGPT’s similar feature called scheduled tasks. That’s not a bad thing though. It’s better for the customer to have options.
In case you are drawing a blank on how you would even use something like this, here are some ideas -
- Get a summary of your calendar tasks for the day
- Go through your unread emails
- Have a meditative mantra ready each morning
- Get sports scores and follow your favorite teams
- Get a reminder of which TV shows will be on that night
- Etc.
For now, scheduled actions are available in Google AI Pro and Ultra subscriptions. Also for some Google Workspace plans.
