AI Quick Tips 195: Don't be so focused on the answer that you want that you miss out on a better one

A lot of times when we use AI tools like ChatGPT, we believe that we know the answer that we are looking for.  We’ll know it when we see it or whatever we tell ourselves.

There isn’t anything wrong with this behavior but that doesn’t make it ideal…

One recommendation that I have is to ask for multiple responses when prompting.  Even better, ask for multiple varied responses.

Old prompt -

“Output a story about a donkey farm” (real thing by the way)

New prompt -

“Output multiple stories about a donkey farm, each from a different perspective.  For example, one story can be from the perspective of a visitor, another from the perspective of a donkey at the farm, and a third from the perspective of a tree on the farm.  Also add an extra story from a perspective that I wouldn’t expect”

This will only take a small amount of extra time to generate the output and you will likely still get a similar story to the one in the first prompt.  The bonus is that now you might get a story that is way better than what you originally anticipated because you gave the AI tool some creative space.
