AI Quick Tips 230: Why wouldn't you want to talk to dolphins with AI?

You know, I’ve said this multiple times before - Google is winning the AI race.  And it isn’t close.  

Yes, OpenAI just released GPT-5 and it is their best so far.  (cough it isn’t as good as Gemini 2.5 Pro cough) but I’ll move past that.

Have you heard about DolphinGemma?  Yeah, I didn’t think so.  To summarize, Google has trained a model to help with dolphin research including -

• Understanding dolphin behaviors
• Decoding the whistles that mother dolphins use to call their calves
• Understand the quick squawks that they use while fighting
• So much more

This model is designed to run on Google Pixel phones and can analyze and create different sounds that dolphins regularly use.  They are still working on some of the fine-tuning of the model and, once they are done, they plan to release the model for research purposes.
