AI Quick Tips 280: Attach images from Google Photos to your Gemini prompts

I think that Google is just waiting for the other companies to call them out.  Every time someone does it (cough OpenAI cough), Google just releases more features.

Now you can use whatever you have in Google Photos as context for your Gemini prompts.

Here’s the process

  1. Go to gemini.google.com
  2. Click on the plus (+) in the bottom left corner of the prompt area
A screenshot of the Gemini AI dark-mode interface. A large orange arrow points to the plus (+) icon on the left side of the "Ask Gemini 3" prompt bar. A small white tooltip labeled "Add files" is visible directly below the icon.
  3. Select Photos from the list
A screenshot of the file attachment menu in Gemini. An orange arrow points horizontally to the "Photos" option in a dropdown list that also includes "Upload files," "Add from Drive," and "NotebookLM".
  4. This will open a window that connects to your Google Photos content (photos and albums)
A screenshot of the Google Photos library interface. A single thumbnail image from "Apr 13, 2025" is displayed, showing a digital illustration of a capybara and two people standing in a field under a stormy sky.
  5. Select the photo(s) that you want and click on Insert
A screenshot of the Google Photos selection screen within Gemini. The illustration of the capybara is selected with a blue checkmark icon. A large orange arrow points vertically down to the blue "Insert" button in the bottom right corner of the window.
  6. The selected photo(s) will now be attached to your prompt
A screenshot of the Gemini prompt bar showing the selected capybara illustration successfully attached as a thumbnail to the left of the text input area, which contains the cursor and the placeholder text "Ask Gemini 3".

Now you can prompt normally.

Honestly, I don’t think that this is solving a massive problem.  If you wanted a photo from Google Photos, you could download it and attach it.

This is more of a convenience and/or time-saving move for people.  Sometimes it’s the little things that end up winning it for them in the end though.

Your move OpenAI…
