AI Quick Tips 286: Are you using ChatGPT’s personalization settings?

If you couldn’t keep up with all of the AI tool feature updates over the last few months, you are not alone…

One thing that slipped under the radar for a lot of people is the new personalization options within ChatGPT.  I think this was a response to the complaints that they got after changing the chatbot’s personality so drastically with GPT-5.  Then again with 5.1, and now 5.2.

The good news is that if you don’t like the way that ChatGPT responds to you, now you can change it.

You can find personalization under the menu on the bottom right of the ChatGPT interface

A sidebar navigation menu with the "Personalization" tab highlighted, located above the general Settings and Help options.

This will open up a separate menuScreenshot of a Personalization settings menu for an AI, featuring toggles for tone, warmth, and emoji use, plus a custom instructions text box.

Everything above “Custom instructions” is new and customizable.  The “Base style and tone” is usually the first thing to change if you don’t like the way that ChatGPT responds

These are your options now

Your personal preferences will determine which one(s) make sense for you.  Try a few out and adjust when necessary.

If you don’t like any of the options.  You can always leave it on “Default” and add custom instructions for whatever personality you want.
