The narrative is out there, that AI tools only create “slop” and nobody should ever use them.
If that’s how you feel, I won’t change your mind (I doubt you’d even be reading this). I will put some ideas out there in case you come across someone with this message (or many someones), and you start to question if they are right.
To be clear, if you only prompt AI tools to create slop, then, yes, they will only create slop. Doesn’t feel like news.
If you don’t know how to prompt it to create not-slop then you’ll have to read more of our posts, watch some of our videos or schedule some training. I won’t be able to cover all of that here.
I will offer some high-level ways that you can use AI tools to challenge and/or change how you think about things. This can be personal things, professional things, “one-day” things, etc.
Explore alternative ways that you can look at something
Ask the chatbot how else it could be seen…
See if something that you are thinking makes sense
Create any persona you want to practice tough conversations
I.e. asking for a raise
Identify gaps in your logic
Go through the 6 thinking hats
Find unintended consequences of your decisions/actions
Find ways to simplify simplex problems
Brainstorm ideas on anything
Practice asking or answering difficult questions
This is just a small section of a much larger list.
Notice how none of these have to create anything that you put out into the world. No slop. Just internal conversations and practice that you don’t even have to talk about.
If you do even one of these things, people will start wondering how you are “so prepared”.
Just sayin’
