AI Quick Tips 308: Have you tried Perplexity’s voice mode?

AI Quick Tips

Did you know that Perplexity had a voice mode? Did you know that there is an AI tool called Perplexity?

I’ll assume that you know that it exists (and maybe you’ve tried it).

If you don’t know a lot about it, Perplexity is the AI chatbot that is known for its strong research and citing capabilities. It also lets you use models from multiple vendors (i.e., ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, etc.)

You can access it at perplexity.ai

Back to the top, Perplexity has a full voice mode - meaning that you can give it instructions by talking and receive a response that “talks” back to you. This can be useful if you don’t like to type, talk faster than you type, need to talk through a problem, etc.

To access Perplexity’s voice mode on the desktop app, click on the icon in the bottom right corner of the prompting areaA screenshot of the Perplexity Pro search bar in dark mode. On the far right of the bar, an orange arrow points to a circular icon featuring a sound frequency waveform, indicating a voice or audio mode. The search bar includes a plus icon, a "Model" selector, a "Computer" mode toggle, and a microphone icon.

After you allow access to your microphone (if necessary), the screen will change and wait for you to say something

Below the sphere, teal text reads "Say something..." alongside circular buttons for "X" (close) and a microphone.

Once you talk, it will respond in a way that it thinks is appropriate.

If you’ve never used voice mode in an AI chatbot, it’s a completely different experience (altogether).

Talk It Out. Build Something Real.

Voice mode is fun. Knowing what to do with it is better. Use AI to plan, troubleshoot, and think out loud without getting stuck in “what do I even ask?” mode.
