You know those memes where it starts with “nobody; “ and then has some group that says or does something unprompted? Yeah you do. Like this -
This is kind of how ChatGPT’s new instant model feels. Specifically, it is GPT-5.3 Instant and it is their response to (and I quote) -
“GPT-5.2 Instant’s tone could sometimes feel “cringe”, coming across as overbearing or making unwarranted assumptions about user intent or emotions”
Now, to be fair, maybe this is feedback that they received. I don’t think it is though. Mainly because, GPT-5.3 Instant seems exactly like GPT-5.2 Instant. Aside from the name change, I don’t see or experience any difference. I’d say “maybe it’s just me” but I’ve seen MANY others report the same thing.
One of the interesting things to me about this model is that in OpenAI’s product release post about it, they said that they focused on tone for this new model. Then, in the same post, they say that one (of two) limitations to the model is, wait for it, TONE!
Here’s the post if you want to see for yourself - https://openai.com/index/gpt-5-3-instant/
Maybe I missed something.
This just feels like an attempt to stay top-of-mind for potential customers.
If you want to take the “new” model for a spin, go to chatgpt.com and select GPT-5.3 Instant from the model picker
If the experience is underwhelming for you too, you can always look at the meme again…
