# AI Quick Tips 402: Model changes in Gemini
November 7, 2026
 [Damien Griffin](https://thoughtsbrewing.com/blog/author/damien)
If you have a personal Gemini plan, by the time you read this, the models that you can access will be different. Maybe.
Sometimes they like to make things confusing…
If you have an AI Pro or AI Ultra account, nothing will change.
If you have an AI Plus account, you will lose access to a Pro model. That may be 3.1 Pro, 4.0 Pro (Argon), or another Pro model depending on when you read this. Whichever it is, you won’t be able to use it.
If you have a free account, you will have “auto”. This will almost always use the current flash-lite model (which actually isn’t a bad thing since that model will be able to handle most things that people do). When “auto” doesn’t use flash-lite, it will determine the most appropriate model for the task.
Unfortunately, these changes don’t appear to be optional. If you want to retain your choice of models, you’ll have to pay for a Pro or Ultra account.
Just the messenger…
