AI Quick Tips 52: Evaluate using the 6 Thinking Hats

To say that I am a fan of the 6 Thinking Hats would be an understatement.  If you aren’t familiar with it, check out this post.

You can use an AI tool like ChatGPT to evaluate a situation or topic using the 6 Thinking Hats.

Here is a prompt template -

Use Edward de Bono’s 6 Thinking Hats tool to explore the following topic - {topic}

Provide insights using all 6 hats

This prompt is deceptively simple.  It can provide a ton of information from many different perspectives.

You can also customize the prompt to your situation.  For example, if you want to minimize risk as much as possible, you can highlight the Black Hat through initial or follow up prompts.  

You can also add custom hats to the stack.

Here is a prompt that I like to use that builds on the one above - 

Use Edward de Bono’s 6 Thinking Hats tool to explore the following topic - {topic}

Provide insights using all 6 hats

Add the following hats and explore the topic from their perspective as well

• Unreasonable hat - Achieve the goal in 1/10 of the time

• Guaranteed failure hat - What would have to be done to ensure this effort is not successful?
