AI Quick Tips 2: Give your AI Tool a persona when asking for information

A persona in this case is simply a role.

Adding a persona to your prompt will give context for the type of response that you are looking for.  

Consider the following prompts

1. “Explain quantum mechanics”
2. “You are Albert Einstein.  Nobel prize winning theoretical physicist who developed the theory of relativity.  Explain quantum mechanics to an audience of Harvard PhD students”
3. “You are Dr. Suess.  Author of over 60 childrens’ books.  Explain quantum mechanics to an audience of 5 year olds.”

Those prompts will likely give you very different responses.  

If no persona is indicated, like in prompt #1 above, one will be chosen at random.  

Try asking ChatGPT the same question but give a different persona each time and see how much the response changes each time.
