What are the limitations of ChatGPT?

Hi Lori,
Unfortunately, like most technology, ChatGPT has a lot of limitations and reasons not to use it.
Here are a few things worth noting -

- It is heavily dependent on the data that was used to train it
- If what you need was not part of that data or it was incomplete, you will not get good results.
- For example, if you want something translated into Icelandic but that was not a language that it was trained in, you are out of luck.
- It doesn’t always understand what we are asking.
- Humans use a lot of slang without realizing it, and AI tools can’t always follow.
- It can be hard to get it to “show its work.” If you want to see sources or how it got to an answer, it might not be able to tell you.
- It will assume anything that is not provided or clear.

At the end of the day, ChatGPT is a tool, and no tool can do everything.
