How does the quality of input affect the quality of output in generative AI?
~Anonymous
Good afternoon (or whatever time of day it is there),
I would say that the quality of your output is directly related to the quality of your input.
For beginner, intermediate, and some advanced level users, that input prompt is the only thing that you have that can affect the quality of your output (I’m including text, audio, attachments, etc.)
If you are creating your own models, fine-tuning, or some other advanced things then you have some other options. The prompt input would still be important in these cases though.
Let me give you a quick example - Suppose you want a poem about elephants. You use the prompt “Write me a poem.” Now, to be fair, you MIGHT get a poem about elephants but, since you didn’t specify, the AI tool will pick a topic at random. What if, instead, you used the prompt “Write me a poem about elephants.” Much more likely that you’d get what you wanted.
I realize that you probably don’t want a poem about elephants, but if you expand that to whatever you do want, then I hope that you see how important it is to add enough context so that the AI tool can give you quality output.
As the saying goes - “garbage in, garbage out.”
