Answer

First of all, welcome to the world of A.I.

If you want to improve your prompting, you can answer the following 5 questions after you get output back from ChatGPT (it might be helpful to write out the questions and answers in the beginning) -

  1. What output did you initially want?
  2. What prompt did you use?
  3. What output did you get?
    1. Basically, what you wanted or something else
  4. Why do you think you got that output?
    1. Even if it was what you wanted, this step is important.  It will help you see the different components of a prompt and how they create different kinds of output
  5. What can you change for next time?
    1. Again, even if you got the output that you wanted, you can experiment with a different prompt to see other ways to produce the same output.

This will help you analyze each of your prompts and will also get you into the habit of thinking about your output before you enter a prompt.

If you get stuck on what to change to get the output that you want, the answer is usually context.  Either you left out something vital, or you added too much information.  That’s not always the answer, but it comes up a lot in the beginning stages.

Hope that helps.  If not, let us know, and we’ll try something else.

Take care,
Damien
