BizTech Q&A 34: AI Acceptable Use Policy

BizTech Q&A

Answering your questions about business and technology

Question

Can I use ChatGPT to create an AI acceptable use policy for my organization?

~ Barbara

Answer

Hi Barbara,

Yes, you can use ChatGPT to do this.

If you know some or all of the information that you want in the policy (i.e., dos and don’ts), you can add them to a prompt and ask ChatGPT to create a policy with those points in mind.

Here is an example of that kind of prompt -

Create an acceptable use policy for our organization.  We are a {add relevant details about your organization}

The policy should allow {list the things that your team is allowed to do}

The policy should not allow {list the things that your team is not allowed to do}

You can start with that and see what you get back.  If it is close to what you want, then you can make modifications yourself or use follow-up prompts to have ChatGPT make updates.

If you have no idea where to start, then I recommend a prompt like the following -

I would like to create an AI acceptable use policy for my organization but I don’t know where to start.  Ask me up to 20 questions to gather the information that you need to create an AI acceptable use policy for me.  Ask one question at a time and wait for my response before asking the next question.  Ask me about something instead of assuming information.

After you have asked all of your questions, output an AI acceptable use policy for my organization

This approach will require more back and forth, but ChatGPT will probably ask questions that you haven’t thought about.  Even if you don’t like the output that you get, you will probably be able to draft your own policy after thinking about the answers to all of the questions.

Hopefully, one of those options will help you out, Barbara.
