What is the best free note taker to connect with Zoom?

~ Jess

Answer

Hi Jess,

It’s rare that I don’t have a recommendation but here we are…

I can elaborate if it helps.  I strongly recommend the AI note takers that are included in whatever video tool(s) you are using.  In this case, Zoom AI Companion works best with Zoom.  It’s not free, though.  It might be in the future, but I don’t know.

It seems likely to me that the different platforms will slowly stop to support outside tools if they offer similar tools.  So even if there are good free note takers that work with Zoom today, they might not work for long.

Also, and this is a bigger deal, there are a lot of reported issues with some of the AI note takers.  Some of them send you messages endlessly, some introduce security vulnerabilities in your systems, etc.  Issues are usually more prevalent in free software.

If the built-in note takers are not an option.  I recommend recording your meetings (i.e., with your phone or with Zoom).  Then you can upload the recording or transcription to an AI chatbot like ChatGPT, and now you can do whatever you would have done with the notes.  You can create custom GPTs or instructions to automate your meeting notes workflow (i.e., summarize, create slide decks, extract project tasks, etc.)

Hope that helps.~ Damien
