BizTech Q&A 83: Searching NotebookLM Chats

BizTech Q&A

Question

I have some very long chats in NotebookLM and now I want to search through them to find information.  Is there a way to do this?

Answer

Hi Amy,

So there isn’t a built-in way to search through NotebookLM chats, unfortunately.

The best workaround that I can think of is to

    • Copy everything from the chat area (except the summary)
    • Paste it all into a document (Word, Docs, Notepad, etc.)
      • You could also use a Note within NotebookLM
    • Add that document as a source

You can copy everything by scrolling to the bottom of the chat area, left-clicking your mouse and holding down, scrolling to the top, if everything is highlighted, then let go of the left mouse button and right click, then select copy.

Once you have the new source then it is searchable and citable.

Hope that helps.
