Answering your questions about business and technology

Question

How is my small business supposed to use ChatGPT if they keep changing the tool?  It seems like every time we use it something is different.

Answer

Hi Molly,

While it’s possible that these frequent changes will settle down at some point, I think that this is just the new normal.

In the tech world things change all the time. A lot of those things didn't make it outside of tech circles in the past. Since it looks like AI tools are here to stay, I think that the frequent changes will become “normal”. There are lots of reasons for the changes (i.e. new security vulnerabilities, new features, etc.) but that’s a different post…

Our recommendation for how to deal with it is to keep track of the things that work.

For example, if you use ChatGPT for something and you like the output, save the following information for next time -

    • What you wanted to accomplish
      • I.e. new ideas for marketing
    • Why you wanted to accomplish it
      • I.e. Increase prospects
    • How you accomplished it with ChatGPT
      • I.e. What prompt did you use? What model did you use?

If you have this information for things that worked, even if (when) they change ChatGPT, you can use your saved info to get good results again.

For example, if the same prompt doesn’t work then you can use a prompt like the following -

“I previously used [old model] and [old prompt] to accomplish [thing you are trying to do] and it worked well. What is an updated prompt that I can use with the current model to get similar results?”

Now anytime they change something, you can work with the new setup to see how to change your approach. If you don’t save the information somewhere though, you’ll likely forget about the important parts when you need them.

Hope that helps.
