Question

What’s the point of automations if we have to change them every week when a new model comes out?
~ David

Answer

Hi David,

You don’t have to necessarily update your automations just because OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, etc. releases a new model.  It actually might defeat the purpose of having automations if you have to change them every time something new comes out.

Generally speaking, if you have an automation in place that addresses an issue or process within your organization, keep it in place until it doesn’t address that issue anymore.

If your automation uses AI models, look into setting up API access to the models since most of the major AI companies keep their models available via API for much longer than they have them in the apps like ChatGPT.  For example, you can still access GPT-4o from OpenAI if you go through the API.  You can still access GPT-3.5 models, etc.

There’s been an interesting split between technical information and marketing with the major AI companies.  If your business relies on the technology being available, don’t pay as much attention to the marketing hype once you have something in place that works.  There’s usually a long-term solution available.  You just don’t hear about them as much because they are “boring”.

Hope that helps.
