Question
Is Claude Opus 4.8 really THAT much better than 4.7?
~ Darren
Answer
Hi Darren,
Short answer is - it depends.
If you are using Claude Opus 4.8 with max effort to write a two line email about your team-building retreat, no, it won’t be better than 4.7. On that note, don’t use Opus at all for something like that.
If you are using Opus 4.8 as an orchestration model for 500 agents with dynamic workflows (a feature that didn’t exist before 4.8 was released), yes, it is that much better.
The models are usually built with use-cases in mind. If the way that you are using the new model aligns with one of those use cases then it can be a game-changer. If not, you might waste time and money (and deem the model “slop”)
I would recommend either looking through Anthropic’s documentation about the new model to see what they developed it to do and/or experiment with the model in a controlled environment (aka sandbox) and see if it makes sense to use the model for your use cases.
Hope that helps.
