Book Brew 149: Napoleon Hill Said to Build a Council Table—So I Made It a Party

Book Brew

Who would you seat at your imaginary council table?

I am listening to Napoleon Hill's Golden Rules on Audible and came across the idea of creating an imaginary council table that you can visualize with people sitting around.  People whose strengths you want to embody. Whether it's their discipline, humor, strategic thinking, or heart, you mentally "consult" them when you need guidance.

I'm still pondering over who I would seat at my table. I feel like it will be a very full table, full of laughter, chaos and big personalities.

Who’s Sitting at My Table?

  • Dr. Nowzarden (for brutal honesty and no-excuses structure)
  • Gordon Ramsay (for high standards + compassion)
  • Arnold Schwarzenegger (for mindset and muscle)
  • Daniel Kahneman (because... brains)
  • Tony Robbins (energy + frameworks)
  • Tina Fey (humor and creative edge)
  • Jonathan, the Seychelles giant tortoise (he’s seen some shit and has stories)
  • Marcus Lemonis (business clarity + amazing empathy)
  • Edward de Bono (thinking sideways)
  • Martin Short (comic relief and chaos)
  • Robert Cialdini (influence with integrity)
  • Marcus Aurelius (stoic backbone)
  • Elizabeth Banks (bold brilliance and Cocaine Bear)
  • An octopus (adaptability + genius in strange places)

“Because we can’t have an original dialogue with others and the world around us until we know our own monologue” - Matthew McConaughey

Who’s on Your Council?

Curious what your imaginary table looks like.

  • Who’s invited?
  • Who’s kicked out?
  • Who gets the last word?

Ponder This

  1. If you could “consult” any 5 people (living or dead),  who would you choose?
  2. What strengths or traits are you craving more of in your own life?
  3. Whose voice do you already hear when you’re stuck, and why?
