# The Researcher Who Stopped Copy-Pasting

A researcher we know used to spend hours copy-pasting quotes from PDFs and websites into a Word doc.

She’d mark up the PDFs with highlighter marks. Take endless screenshots that sat on her hard drive. Leave herself lil chaos notes in Notepad like *“Quote about climate policy (page 12? \[article link\]) that maybe goes with regulation? Or innovation? IDK yet.”*

By the end of the month, when she would have the chance to review things, she became so overwhelmed with the scattered chaos and would just walk away, defeated and leaving some great ideas unanalyzed.

When she switched to NotebookLM, everything changed. Instead of copy-pasting, she uploaded the PDFs, the website URLs, the notes, and asked: *“Pull 5 key insights and group them by theme.”*

What used to take a full afternoon took five minutes, giving her a structured analysis with quotes, page numbers, and thematic groupings.

This freed her up to give her time to actually think about the ideas she collected rather than wasting time organizing them (or just abandoning them).
