Using AI for Idea Validation

How many unfinished ideas are sitting in your notebook (or in my case, many, many notebooks), waiting for “someday”?

Before you pour time or money into one, let AI stress-test it.

AI Quick Tip #120 introduced the T.A.G. framework (Task, Action, Goal). It’s perfect for this:

  • Task: Assess whether the idea is viable.
  • Action: Explain risks and cheap tests.
  • Goal: Help decide if it’s worth pursuing this week.

Try these sample prompts:

Market Validation

  • Task: Evaluate whether this business idea solves a meaningful problem.
  • Action: Identify the target audience, the problem being solved, three strengths, three weaknesses, and the biggest assumption that needs to be tested. Suggest one low-cost experiment to validate demand.
  • Goal: Help me decide whether this idea is worth pursuing.

Devil’s Advocate

  • Task: Critique this idea as if you're an experienced investor who has seen hundreds of similar businesses.
  • Action: Explain why this idea might fail, what warning signs concern you, what evidence would increase your confidence, and how the concept could be improved.
  • Goal: Expose blind spots before I invest significant time or money.

Customer Perspective

  • Task: Evaluate this idea from the perspective of my ideal customer.
  • Action: Explain what would immediately grab their attention, what objections they might have, what questions they'd ask before buying, and what would convince them to move forward.
  • Goal: Determine whether the idea creates enough value to solve a real problem.

Business Reality Check

  • Task: Assess the business viability of this idea.
  • Action: Analyze the competitive landscape, barriers to entry, potential revenue opportunities, likely risks, and the easiest way to launch a minimum viable version.
  • Goal: Decide whether this idea deserves additional planning.

This doesn’t guarantee success. But it can help to prevent you from chasing ideas that should stay on the Post-It wall.
