AI Quick Tips 232: Have you tried Google Stitch yet?

I know, I know - what is this and why would you care…?

Google Stitch is an AI tool that is focused on building UI (user interfaces).  Here is Google’s answer to “What is Stitch?” from their FAQ -

Stitch is an AI-powered tool to help application builders generate high-quality user interfaces for mobile and web apps, and easily export them to Figma, or directly access the frontend code.  It uses some of the latest AI models from Google DeepMind.

You can choose between Gemini 2.5 Flash and Gemini 2.5 Pro (models).  You can choose between mobile and web applications.  And you can choose to add a sketch, mockup, or visual inspiration.  Then you describe your design and let it generate something for you.

You can start with a high-level prompt and Stitch will give you more of a brainstorming session where you can go back and forth to refine the output.  If you know what you want, you can start with a more detailed prompt for specific results.

Here’s an example where I gave it a high-level prompt for “An app to create images using nano banana” -

  • First, it gave me a logical screen progression for this kind of app
    • Welcome screen - to introduce users to the app’s image generation capabilities
    • Image creation dashboard - where users can input parameters and initiate image generation
    • Gallery screen - to view and manage previously created images
    • Settings screen - for app preferences and account management
  • I can keep this recommendation or prompt it to add/remove/change anything
  • I choose to keep it and have it design a welcome screen

  • I prompted it to change the yellow in the image to orange

  • I moved on and accepted the prompt suggestion to “Design the Image Creation Dashboard”

  • At this point, I’m confident that I can continue to make adjustments until the UI matches my vision

From what I’ve seen, the tool works well.  It is currently free with usage limits -

  • 350 generations per month - Standard Mode
  • 50 generations per month - Experimental Mode

There are fewer and fewer excuses for people not to build the applications that would make their lives easier.  “I’m not a designer” might be off of the list…
