You’ve gotten past the skepticism about AI. You’ve chosen to start using ChatGPT because that’s what everyone keeps saying you are ‘supposed to do’. But you don’t know where to start.
This is a simple checklist to get you started. Nothing fancy -
- Open a web browser and go to chatgpt.com

- In the area where it says “Message ChatGPT”, type in your first prompt. Ask it the first question that comes to your mind
- Ask a follow up question (a new question that references something that was in the answer of your first question)
- Ask it to create a smiley face emoticon
- Ask it to create a table (i.e., “Create a table with the numbers 1 - 10 as digits and as letters”)
- Ask it to create a numbered list
- Ask it to create a bulleted list
- Ask it to tell you a joke
- Ask it to play a game of hangman
- Ask it to show you the python code needed to print the word “bicycle”
This is a short checklist to get you using ChatGPT and seeing some of what it can do.
You probably have some ideas on what you’d like to accomplish with it. Form a few questions or instructions and try it out.
If you create an account and log in you get more capabilities like creating images, saving conversations, searching the internet, etc.
