Book Brew 177: Quote Vault Part 12

It’s been a while since I posted a Quote Vault post.

This one focuses on quotes I have collected over the past few months around the idea of execution over planning.

When plans are cheap, execution is the only currency that matters. These quotes are for the people who've figured out that done beats perfect (I see you fellow recovering perfectionists), and that one working path beats endless analysis.

“Great planners who don’t execute their plans go nowhere.” - Principles, Ray Dalio

“I write to discover what I know.” - Flannery O’Connor

“Should you find yourself in a chronically leaking boat, energy devoted to changing vessels is likely to be more productive than energy devoted to patching leaks.” Warren Buffett

“You need to know if your vision aligns with the reality of your choices.” - Be Useful, Arnold Schwarzenegger

“Remember that there are typically many paths to achieving your goals. You only need to find one that works.” - Principles, Ray Dalio

Ponder This

  1. What are you trying to figure out by planning that you could actually discover by writing/doing?
  2. Which of your leaky boats are you still trying to patch instead of abandoning?
