Written by Danielle Price Griffin | Sep 11, 2024 2:29:00 PM

Dive into the Quote Vault with me to swim in these words of wisdom and perspective.

These authors' views help us look beyond the surface of things, listen more and speak less, and cultivate a mindset that values understanding over assumption.

By shifting our perspective, we can gain deeper insights into ourselves and the world, leading to greater wisdom in our daily lives.

Book Recommendations: A Note on Cultural Wisdom

A note about Lagom: The Swedish Art of Balanced Living, if you haven’t read it, or Ikigai: The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life or The Little Book of Hygge: Danish Secrets to Happy Living, I highly recommend you go out and find some copies and read them.  They are each short and easy reads but so full of great tips and interesting insights into other cultures.

Wisdom and Perspective

  • “When you talk, you are only repeating what you already know. But if you listen, you may learn something new.”
    Dalai Lama, Lagom, page 122

  • “The foolish reject what they see, not what they think. The wise reject what they think, not what they see.”
Huang Po, Buddhism Plain and Simple, page 148

  • “What inspired you today? What challenged you today? What surprised you today? What did you learn about? What did you love today?”
Ten Percent Happier Podcast - Dan Harris and Frank Ostaseski

  • “If you live in a past dream, you don’t enjoy what is happening right now because you will always wish it to be different than it is. There is no time to miss anyone or anything because you are alive. Not enjoying what is happening right now is living in the past and being only half alive. This leads to self-pity, suffering, tears.”
    The Four Agreements, page 85

  • “You could leave life right now.”
    Marcus Aurelius

Ponder This

  1. Which quote resonates most with you right now, and why?
  2. How can you apply one of these perspectives to a current challenge in your life?
  3. What cultural practice from the recommended books would you like to incorporate into your daily routine?
