Practicality and efficiency come to life with these words, reminding us how tools and delegation shape the way we work and collaborate.

Today’s Word Gems

  • Delegable (adj) - capable of being delegated
    • The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, pg 128 - “You might decide to delegate what is delegable and come in early the next morning to do the rest.”
  • Epidiascope (noun) - an optical projector capable of giving images of both opaque and transparent objects
    • Lateral Thinking, pg 114 - “Unless the group is small enough to actually cluster around the drawings these would have to be copied and show on an overhead project or epidiascope.”
  • Amanuensis (noun) - a literary or artistic assistant, in particular one who takes dictation
    • You Like It Darker, pg 55 - “You know that I was Castle County School Superintendent for many years before I retired to come my father’s amanuensis.”
  • Crėches (noun) - a place where young children are taken care of during the day while their parents do something else.
    • Lateral Thinking, pg 87 - “Making it unnecessary for parents to have to take children into large crowds (crėches at exhibitions, etc).

Ponder This

  1. What makes something worth delegating versus completing yourself?
  2. Have you ever played the role of an amanuensis for someone, and how did it shape your understanding of their work?
