The Imaginary Haters Are Loud, But Your Real Supporters Are Louder (If You Let Them Be)

Written by Danielle Price Griffin | Sep 26, 2025 1:00:03 PM

You know who didn’t tear apart my writing, mock my journaling habit, or call me delusional for starting a business? Literally everyone I know.

But in my head?

  • There’s a full-blown troll army wearing matching “WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?” hoodies.
  • They hold imaginary clipboards. They critique my tone, punctuation, and font choices.
  • Somehow they have Wi-Fi and opinions...rude.

Meanwhile, in the real world?

  • A friend DMs “This hit home.”
  • A client says “Your post helped me rethink my schedule.”
  • A former coworker likes 3 posts in a row (the modern hug).

Moral of the story?

Your imaginary critics are loud because they’re in your head.
Your real supporters are quiet (but powerful) because they’re actually rooting for you.

Let the real people in.
Hit post. Hit publish. Hit send.

You’re not alone, even if your inner critic thinks she runs HR.
