AI Quick Tips 200: An 8-step process for change management

AI Quick Tips

Why is there a post about change management as an AI Quick Tip?  Thank you for asking, nobody, it’s here because the more people that we talk to about integrating AI tools into their workflows, the more we are realizing that it is less about technical know-how and much more about change management.

The people that we work with who only view AI tools as a one quick lesson and then “they got it” are rarely using any AI tools 6 months later.

In a lot of cases, a complete culture change is required and it becomes much more involved than people realize and have allocated time for.

Because of this, I now front-load the change management talk in our workshops and cohorts to make sure that people are aware of the commitment that they will likely need to be successful.

There are many change management frameworks out there and, for this post I will pick one of the more popular.  This is Dr. John Kotter’s award-winning methodology to produce lasting change (summarized)

  1. Create a Sense of Urgency
  2. Build a Guiding Coalition
  3. Form a Strategic Vision
  4. Enlist a Volunteer Army
  5. Enable Action by Removing Barriers
  6. Generate Short-Term Wins
  7. Sustain Acceleration
  8. Institute Change
