Edward de Bono (Six Thinking Hats, Lateral Thinking, so many other books) was brilliant and creative. If you don’t know who he is then I recommend looking him up. Any introduction that I would put together won’t do him justice.
I am still learning from his published works today and likely will for a long time.
Here are some things that he’s said -
Intelligent people vs. Thinkers (proving that they are right vs. building a skill)
Proof is often no more than a lack of imagination
You get a good idea today, a better idea tomorrow, and the best idea never
Communication is not about what you want to send but about what the receiver is capable of receiving
Problem solving is sometimes about designing a way forward even if the cause of the problem remains in place (Most of the problems of the world will not be solved by further analysis. What they need is design)
Perception is the most important part of thinking
The purpose of thinking is to stop thinking (look for a pattern, start it, stop thinking)
Sometimes to have progress we have to move back on an idea (even a successful one) and change it for a different idea
Thinking is getting from one piece of information to a better piece of information (If you know everything you cannot think)
So many more but I’ll stop there.
