Voice Mode: The Gemini Feature Most Beginners Ignore

Some people think better out loud.

Others write like they’re in a staring contest with the cursor on the blank page.

If typing slows your thinking down, Gemini’s voice mode may be the hidden shortcut you need.

You can brainstorm ideas, talk (like literally talk) through rough drafts, or even role-play tricky conversations, just by speaking.

Voice mode works especially well when you:

  • Need to untangle messy ideas without typing a Stephen King-length novel first.

  • Are stuck on a creative block and want real-time brainstorming.

  • Want your prompts to sound like a human conversation.

  • Only have your phone available and hate typing on the tiny keyboard (what is this, a center for ants!?)

  • Are out for a walk, and an idea strikes, but you don’t have a pen and paper available to jot it down.

  • Have an important meeting or interview and want to rehearse without dragging a coworker into it - have a back-and-forth conversation to help you get your thoughts in order before the real deal.

Example prompt:

“Hey, I’m planning a special edition of our newsletter. Let me talk through some ideas of what I want to include, and I want you to have a conversation with me about other things to consider. Ask me questions as we go. At the end, give me a summary of the conversation along with a draft of the newsletter.”

Bonus Tip:

Use follow-up prompts mid-conversation.

Don’t stop at the first draft. Say something like, “That’s close, but make it sound more confident and less formal.”
