Book Brew 65: Quote Vault Part III

Book Brew

Continuing deeper into the vault, I look through the themes of happiness and purpose.

These quotes offer timeless (some literally from 300 BC) wisdom on what it means to live a fulfilling life. They encourage us to seek joy and meaning in our everyday experiences and to align our actions with our deepest values. By doing so, we can find true contentment and purpose in all that we do.

If you haven’t read either book, The Happiness Project or Ten Percent Happier, I highly recommend them.

Happiness and Purpose

  • “Happiness is the meaning and the purpose of life, the whole aim and end of human existence.”
    Aristotle

  • “We must exercise ourselves in things which bring happiness, since if that be present, we have everything, and, if that be absent, all our actions are directed toward attaining it.”
    Epicurus

  • “Feeling right is about living the life right for you - in occupation, location, marital status, and so on.”
    The Happiness Project

  • “Reducing your suffering minimizes the overall suffering of the community.”
Ten Percent Happier Podcast - Dan Harris and Rhonda Magee

  • “Remind yourself that past and future have no power over you. Only the present - and even that can be minimized. Just mark off its limits. And if your mind tries to claim that it can’t hold out against that…well, then, heap shame upon it.”
    Marcus Aurelius

Ponder This

  1. How do you define happiness and purpose in your life, and how do these definitions influence your daily decisions?
  2. Which quotes resonate most with your current life situation, and why?
  3. How can you apply one of these pieces of wisdom to a challenge you're facing right now?

  • The Happiness Project - Gretchen Rubin
  • Ten Percent Happier - Dan Harris
