This is a common reason why people refuse to use AI tools like ChatGPT.
If this is you, I challenge you to go deeper to explain what you mean by this or why you believe that this is true.
I’ll share my opinion if it is useful. To be clear, my intention isn’t to change your mind. We’re just having an async conversation here.
The first part is usually a definition of terms to make sure that we are in the same conversation. In this case, I define being creative as expressing the ideas in your head through one or more of your current skill-sets.
For example, if you think of an interesting character, create a story around them, and you are a writer - you can be creative by writing an interesting short story about this character, their journey, triumphs, etc.
Because something like ChatGPT is a general-purpose (multi-modal) tool, it probably has access to more creative outlets than most people. This means that in the above example, it can express the same character, journey, etc., through an image or a song.
There are many (many) more examples if you expand to more models (i.e., video, pixel-art, comic book, etc.), but the main point is that an AI tool can add more creative avenues to express your ideas. And that, in my opinion, can make you MORE creative.
This is very different from “I am a writer so I will not use ChatGPT to write for me”.
Think about it
You don’t have to agree…
(and, no, AI did not write this)
