Answering your questions about business and technology
Question
When I ask GPT-5 to ask me clarifying questions, it doesn’t seem to ask as many as previous models did. Am I doing something wrong?

Answer
Hello,
The short answer is that you will have to try different approaches and see which one(s) work consistently.
People have been reporting that GPT-5 will only ask one clarifying question before going into its response(s). This is in line with what I’ve seen so far.
OpenAI doesn’t officially release their models’ system prompts (the instructions that tell the models how to answer) but some people claim to have found a “leaked” copy of it. I don’t know if it is the actual system prompt or not but the interesting thing is that part of the instructions are to ask at most one clarifying question before delivering output.
If that’s the case, it will be difficult to override.
If you are able to, you can access the models through the API and define your own system prompt but that requires a separate paid account with OpenAI and a decent amount of technical knowledge.
Another alternative is to plan on using follow-up prompts and getting one more clarifying question in on each one.
Like I opened with, you are going to have to try different approaches and see what works for you.
Hope that helps
