Every project hits “the messy middle.”
That point where your brilliant idea turns into a confusing blob. Not done enough to show anyone, not bad enough to toss. It’s like staring at a pancake that’s somehow raw and burnt at the same time.
This is where most people start Googling “How to be productive” and end up watching raccoon videos instead (I have been there, done that…probably today even). But AI (specifically ChatGPT) can pull you out of this gooey creative slump.
Here’s How to Let AI Flip Your Draft
1. Brainstorm Without Judgment.
Open ChatGPT and type:
“I’m stuck halfway through writing a blog post about [topic]. Can you give me 5 different ways to finish this, ranging from serious to completely ridiculous?”
Suddenly you have new directions, and one of them will make you think, “Wait…that’s not terrible.”
2. Ask for the Ugly Truth.
Give ChatGPT your messy draft and say:
“Read this and tell me what’s confusing or flat. Then rewrite it to sound more conversational, but keep my tone. [draft text]”
It’s like having an editor who doesn’t sigh loudly while marking up your work.
3. Build the Bridge.
When you’re stuck between “what I wrote” and “what I want this to be,” the B.A.B. Prompt Framework can rescue you. BAB stands for Before, After, Bridge:
- Before: Where are you now? (a messy draft, a vague idea)
- After: Where do you want to end up? (a clear, polished piece)
- Bridge: What’s the path to get there? (actions to get you from before to after)
Example prompt:
“I have a rough draft of a blog post that feels repetitive and stiff. [before]
I want it to sound conversational, playful, and about 500 words.[after]
Suggest specific changes and transitions that will help me move from the current version to that outcome [bridge]”
You’ll get options that feel like little stepping stones instead of a blank page chasm.
The Real Trick
Your creativity is already in the pan. AI is just the spatula that keeps the pancake from burning on one side while you’re staring at it, wondering if it’s even edible.
If you’ve been circling the same half-baked draft for days, let ChatGPT help you find momentum again. It’s faster, less painful, and way better than a YouTube spiral.
