AI Quick Tips 301: Don’t blame AI

A graphic title card on a dark blue background. On the left is an orange robot head with a speech bubble containing the text 'AI'. To the right is a light blue circle containing the words 'Quick Tips'.

I saw this the other day, and I think it is so fitting.

A four-panel comic illustrating the cyclical use of AI in the workplace. In the first panel, a man named Tim sits stressed at his laptop, thinking, "There’s no way I can finish a 12-page report tonight". In the second panel, he looks happy and tells his computer, "Hey, co-pilot— I need you to generate a 12-page report from the 5 bullet points in quarterly.doc". In the third panel, a female colleague receives the report and thinks, "Did Tim really just send me a 12-page report? I don't have time to read all that...". In the final panel, she tells her own computer, "Hey, co-pilot: Summarize the report Tim just sent me into 5 bullet points".

There are a lot of “professional” environments that have a culture problem that is being exposed when their staff uses AI tools. Then they blame the AI tools.

If things were/are already broken, maybe getting mad at “AI” isn’t the best move.

I don’t think it will help the situation.
