AI Quick Tips 340: Google Translate is almost old enough to drink

A graphic title card on a dark blue background. On the left is an orange robot head with a speech bubble containing the text 'AI'. To the right is a light blue circle containing the words 'Quick Tips'.

Google just passed their 20th anniversary with Translate. 20 years!.

There are so many takeaways here -

  • AI tools have been around much longer than people realize
  • Since I remember when this first came out, how old am I?!
  • No more takeaways, that last one was enough for me

Of course, Google has no signs of slowing down with Translate.

20 years in and they are still releasing, at least, one new feature. There is a new pronunciation practice tool that uses AI (of course) to analyze your speech and provide instant feedback.

This can help you feel more confident when you talk to people for the first time in a new language that maybe they’ve been speaking their entire lives.

The new tool is currently available in the US and India.

The languages supported are English, Spanish, and Hindi. I’m confident that those lists will be expanded soon.
