AI Quick Tips 400: Friends don’t let friends vibe code alone

Orange AI robot illustration with speech bubble and blue badge celebrating 400th AI Quick Tips post.

I’m not sure yet if this is a solution looking for a problem… There’s a new experiment in Google Labs called Play with Putty that was “designed to bring people together through frictionless, real-time, collaborative building.”

It’s basically team vibe coding.

If you aren’t familiar with the term, vibe coding is where you prompt an AI model to build something for you. Instead of coding yourself, the traditional way, you “feel the vibe” and work with the model to create something. It was initially a way for software developers to prototype things quickly and it has exploded into its own category. It definitely has its uses (and its critics).

Until now, vibe coding has been one person and an AI tool (or maybe a team of AI tools).

Play with Putty lets each person interact directly with any element in the UI and give the model instructions to make real-time changes to behavior and/or look. Other team members can then change it to their liking (you’ll probably need to set some ground rules or people will just change things back and forth).

It also includes a version history element so you can look at any of the changes made and revert back whenever you want.

Play with Putty isn’t available to use yet but you can join the waitlist if interested. Here is the link to the product page - https://labs.google/playwithputty
