Answering your questions about business and technology
Question
I haven’t used AI yet and all my friends are telling me that it’s too late and I missed out. Are they right? If not, where do I start? It’s all too overwhelming
~ Rosie
Answer
Hi Rosie,
That FOMO feeling is real… but, luckily, it’s only a feeling and you haven’t “missed out”. The tools are there whenever you are ready to use them.
I would recommend starting with a very Simon Sinek-like question of why. That is, why do you want to use AI in the first place? Is there a goal that you are working towards? Do you want help with your job? With your business? With your personal life? Etc.
Having that starting point will be helpful since there are so many directions that you can ultimately go with modern AI tools.
Once you have a loose idea of “why”, pick one of these tools -
-
- OpenAI’s ChatGPT - chatgpt.com
- Google’s Gemini - gemini.google.com
- Microsoft Copilot - copilot.microsoft.com
You might pick based on already having paid access to one (i.e., through your job), or a strong positive/negative view of the company, etc. If you don’t know, then start with ChatGPT - it’s been around the longest and is the most forgiving.
Whichever you choose, there will be a box in the middle (or bottom) of the screen where you can click and type something in. What you type in is called a prompt. Type this in - “I have never used an AI tool before and I don’t know where to start. What can I do with AI chatbots?”
You will get a list of things back. Pick one that sounds interesting and prompt it to tell you more about it. Continue for as long as you want.
You will find that you can ask the tools how to use the tools (which takes some getting used to) which actually makes getting started pretty seamless.
Let us know when you have another question but you should be good for a while…
Hope that helps.
