Question

Why can’t I make as many slide decks in NotebookLM anymore?
~ Catie

Answer

Hi Catie,

They’ve changed the usage limits in Gemini Notebook/NotebookLM.

The old system let you create a fixed number of artifacts per day based on the type of account that you have (i.e. 20 slide decks per day) and an unlimited number of chats.

The new system gives you a usage meter. Any chat or artifact that you create will add to the usage. Once the usage bar is full, you cannot generate anything else. There are actually 2 usage bars, a five hour and a weekly. If either fills up then you won’t be able to do much.
Gemini Notebook AI Usage and Limits dialog box displaying current and weekly usage meters at 0% used.

To see your current usage, click on the gear (usually in the upper right) and then usage -Settings drop-down menu in Gemini Notebook highlighting the Usage option.

The amount of usage that you have depends on your account type, basically the more you pay them, the more usage you get.

One other thing worth noting is that there is now a “Generate later” option when you click on the slide deck button (or any other artifact). If you don’t have enough usage left to generate something immediately, they let you pick generate later and it will still create the slide deck but you won’t know when. It is usually several hours later. It might not be ideal but it might also be better than nothingAI Usage bar indicating usage levels alongside options to Generate later or Generate now.

Hope that helps.
