I think that we may already be at a point where most people are only using AI tools to do things for them.
This can be good in small, controlled doses. The issue, in my opinion, is that people are slowly downgrading their skill levels or never building them up in the first place.
If everyone is using the same tools to do the same things, then what advantage could you have besides your ability to use the tools?
I have a lot to say about this, but I will get off of my virtual soapbox…
If you want an alternative, here is a prompt template that you can use to learn a topic or skill with the help of AI -
You are an expert in [subject]
Here is a definition that I was given of [topic] - [definition]
Can you give me five examples that illustrate the definition?
I want to be able to do further research and apply them in practice.
For each example, specify how it illustrates the definition.
If my initial definition is flawed, let me know and provide an alternative definition. Be prepared to carry out this exercise using your definition.
Replace
- {subject] - with the high-level area that covers what you are talking about
- [topic] - with the "what" you want to learn
- [definition] - with what you currently know about the topic
