Question

I have a Google Sheet that has a calendar popup when I double click in certain cells and it lets me choose a date.  I can’t remember how to do this.  Can you help me?

Answer

Hello again Bethanie,

Yes, I can help you with that.

Here is a piece of an existing sheet

If I wanted to make it so that the cells under “End Date” had a calendar pop-up like you described, I would -

    • Highlight one of the cells
    • Click on the Data menu
    • Select Data Validation

This opens a data validation window on the right side of the screen

Click on Add rule, and it will put in information for a dropdown by default

Click on the arrow next to “Dropdown” and a long list will appear.  Select “Is valid date” from the list

If you now click Done, then you will be able to double-click in that cell, and a calendar will pop up that lets you select the date.

You can repeat this process for other cells where you want to select a date from a calendar.

*Note - there is a section on the data validation page titled “Apply to Range” and you can put a range of cells in there so that you don’t have to do this one cell at a time.

Hope that helps

~ Damien
