When to Stop Letting AI “Help”

AI is powerful. But sometimes, the smartest move you can make is to step away.

Here are a few times when using ChatGPT or NotebookLM might actually slow you down:

  • You’re writing something personal or vulnerable.

  • You’re in a field where accuracy matters more than speed (finance, law, healthcare, etc.).

  • You don’t know the topic well enough to check if the AI is making things up (aka, hallucinating).

We’re not saying to avoid AI altogether. Just determine when your voice, judgment, and accuracy are more important than speed.

Use AI for:

  • Structure
  • Smoothing
  • Editing
  • Idea generation
  •

Use yourself for:

  • Nuance
  • Emotion
  • Final judgment

Think of it like cooking. AI can chop the vegetables and set the timer. But you still decide the seasoning and make sure it’s edible.
